Ahhh the neck tie: The go-to gift for Father’s Days and Boss’ birthdays across this great nation. Also a staple of closet clutter and Salvation Army donations, neck ties are so ubiquitous its surprising they don’t hand one out free when you buy a cell phone or a Cobb salad. It has happened to most of us. We buy a new computer, set the thing up, get it running and everything seems just fine. Until, that is, we need to write a paper, or create a .pdf document to share with others or get rid of a pesky virus. At that point a sad realization sets in; the buck doesn't stop at the $1000 price tag of the computer. Well I don’t know about you, but after buying a new computer for a grand or more, I want "the basic software of life" included. Alas, this is not usually the case. read more »

When I was younger, whenever I wore a hole in the knee of my jeans my mother would take these God awful iron on "faux" denim patches and cover them up. She actively ignored my urging that holes in the knees of your jeans were the coolest things ever. So my relationship with patches had a rocky start, but over the years I've come to love their versatility and design. Like bumper stickers for your clothes, they say a lot about you, but can be removed at a whim. The beauty of the patch below is it is so inexpensive to make, it reuses those old, holey jeans you have laying around (because holes in the knees? I’m so over it) and is relatively easy to make. The hand stitching does take a little bit of time, but on the plus side, it’s easily transportable to your next Knit and Bitch. read more »
