I’m Russian…But I’ll Be Slowing Down

Pack Rat Magazine hates the pomp, but we don’t really mind the circumstance.

I came across this Russian blog called elfF houSE the other day that is home to some truly weird images. Maybe some of the pictures might be less bizarre if I spoke the language, but for some of them there can be no good explanation. I did, however, find some pretty cool craft pics there. Check out the crocheted tree project and a felt artist’s sculptures below. I wish I had more info to give you on either subject, but this is all I’ve got. Both projects just seemed too cool to ignore. Hope you feel the same.

Wiki It To Me Baby

Check out Pack Rat Magazine, Issue #1!

So this is pretty cool. Instead of yet another blog (I’m going to start calling them “YABs) about knitting, some inventive people have decided to put together a knitting wiki called (appropriately enough) WikiKnitting. For those of you who’ve never used wikipedia, or for those of you that have but have never questioned how it works, a wiki is like the metaphoric town square. Anyone can come and add content, update content, comment on content, add photos, patterns, tutorials, or just their own two cents. The idea behind a wiki is that with a lot of authors spot checking each other, you will get the highest quality content available. They are pretty cool and unlike a forum, for example, you can write long, information filled posts (highly encouraged). Check this one out for knitting tips, stitch tutorials and awesome projects, like this Mario Bros. felted purse.

The Adventures of Future Girl

Check out the premier issue of our magazine!

I bring you Future Girl’s craft blog as yet another means to help fill your Google Reader. This one is by a young woman named Alice who seems like she’d be an awesome person to hit the bars with. Case in point, her blog name is derived from a nickname she earned after shaving her head and stenciling henna designs all over it. Her co-worker dubbed her Future Girl after a character in the George Lucas student film, THX 1138. Sci-Fi fan, henna fan, and a fan of indie crafts? I’m sold. Consider me a fan. She works primarily in felt stuffies and has some great designs pictured on her blog that will simply wash you in inspiration. She also has some cool free patterns, like the crochet beaded bracelet pictured below, and a couple of step-by-step tutorials on the basic hand stitches she uses when making her stuffed creations. Not to mention she introduced me to this link for directions on how to make the Best Knot Ever which I pass along in the hopes that it will help those of you who haven’t fudged your own method of knot making yet.
