Pack Rat knows that someday somebody’s gonna make you wanna turn around and say good-bye, till then baby are you gonna let them hold you down and make you cry?
The street art instillations by Mark Jenkins officially give me the heebie jeebies. But in an exciting way. Scattered all over Europe and the U.S., his pieces run the gauntlet from whimsical (like an abandoned shopping cart with four feet instead of wheels), to the ethereal (packaging tape children floating through city streets), to the down right terrifying (the faceless loiterer). While viewing some of his pieces I think, “what if I saw this as a child?” and I am thrilled and horrified all at the same time. There is one piece he did in Spain, involving the form of a child facing into a corner in time out, its beloved Teddy Bear forgotten on the sidewalk, that pretty much feeds into every Blair Witch and The Ring nightmare I harbor. Visit his website and see the full range of unexpected instillations surprising people around the globe.
