Like many Americans these days, I often feel fed up with the injustices of the world. Poverty, hunger, people with limited access to substandard education. And like many others, I feel a strong urge to do something, but don’t know where to start. Where can I make the most difference? If this is a problem you too face, take a look at craftivisim.com. Betsy Greer, the heart and mind behind this endeavor is an inspiring force. Her take on activism is that it can be its most powerful for some people when combinded with their creativity. Maybe instead of making picket signs, we could help local children finger paint or knit with the elderly. As she says, “It is possible to go beyond banners, email petitions and chants as ways of fighting for a cause you believe in. This is less about mass action or more about realizing what you can do to makes things around you better.” Think about how much you benefit from craft being a part of your life. And then think about sharing that feeling, that benefit with someone else and you can begin to really see how through craft you can make a difference in your world, one person at a time.
